Poker is a card game that has become an international pastime, enjoyed by people in virtually every country where cards are played. It has a long history and is believed to be an ancestor of other card games such as blackjack and rummy. The game of poker involves a combination of chance, psychology and strategic thinking. While some bets are forced, most bets are made voluntarily by players who believe that the bet has a positive expected value or are trying to bluff other players for various reasons.
A player’s position at the table, generally referring to their place relative to the button (a small disk used in live poker to indicate the dealer). The first-to-act position is known as the “under the gun” position.
