A casino, also known as a gambling house or a card room, is an establishment for various types of gambling. Some casinos are stand-alone, while others are combined with hotels, restaurants, retail shops or cruise ships. Casinos also rely on psychology to lure gamblers into spending more money than they can afford to lose.

Beneath the varnish of flashing lights and free drinks, casinos rest on a bedrock of mathematics engineered to slowly bleed gamblers of their hard-earned cash. But it takes a sharp mind to turn the tables on such rigged games. Throughout history, mathematicians and game theorists have tried to beat the casinos using their understanding of probability and mathematical strategy. But for most people, the best way to win at a casino is to never step inside one in the first place.
